DJ Ron

Artist, London Something (UK)

DJ Ron (Ron Samuels) is one of the founding pioneers of Jungle — the east London-born sound that became Drum & Bass and reshaped global electronic music. A former scratch DJ for the TNT Road-Show and touring DJ for Rebel MC (Top of the Pops, 1989–1993), he went on to become a resident at the era's defining Jungle nights and the producer of landmark records including African Chant, Crackman (remix) and Canaan Land. In 1994 he was cited in the Guinness Book of Records for Dance Music. In 1995 he made history as the first DJ to perform a Jungle set on BBC Radio 1, with his mix The Circumference of Jungle Music on Pete Tong's Essential Mix. He holds a BA Hons in Practical Filmmaking from Met Film School and served as Head of TV at Rinse FM. Today he runs London Something — a production company, record label and cultural consultancy — and hosts The London Something Podcast, a 37-episode filmed archive of Jungle and D&B history, now expanding to cover the wider story of UK music.
