General Counsel, Music Nation
Aisha Y. Salem-Howey is General Counsel of Music Nation, one of the UAE’s first collective management organizations (CMOs) dedicated to empowering songwriters, composers, music publishers, sound recording owners, and featured artists with tools to register, protect, and receive compensation for their creative works across the UAE. She leads Music Nation’s legal, regulatory, and governance strategy, and drives international engagement while advancing collective licensing throughout the region.
Previously, Aisha served as the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) Intellectual Property Attaché for the Middle East and North Africa, based at the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi, where she advanced U.S. intellectual property (IP) policy, supported businesses, and partnered with regional governments to strengthen IP protection and enforcement. She held this role from 2013 to 2017 and again from 2022 to 2025.
Prior to becoming the IP Attaché, Aisha was a Trademark Examining Attorney with the USPTO. She has also worked for the International Intellectual Property Alliance; the General Counsel’s Office of the U.S. Copyright Office; Allen, Dyer, P.A., a Florida-based IP boutique law firm; and NBC Universal’s Department of Business & Legal Affairs.
Ms. Salem-Howey earned an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from The George Washington University Law School in 2006, a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2005, and a B.A. in Performing Arts Management from The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in 2002. She is a professional cellist and a licensed member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
