Second Speaker Announcement

Second round of speakers have been confirmed for IMS Engage, taking place in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 16th at the W Hotel Hollywood. The newest pairings include – Giorgio Moroder with Pete Tong and Steve Angello with Ian Rogers.

The series of summits began in Ibiza in 2008, and has since expanded to the United States. With the flourishing electronic music influence in today' musical scene, IMS has built a reputation as an exemplary platform for “music technology collaboration and creation” where some of the biggest musical talents can come together for a monumental event.

IMS Engage consists of six unmoderated conversations that pair leaders from the finance, film, technology, music and media realms. In these discussions, participants have the opportunity to engage in dialogue on the flourishing electronic music industry. In addition to the confirmed speakers – producer and DJ musician Moby with legendary film director David Lynch, and world-renowned film music composer Hans Zimmer with rising scoring star Junkie XL, IMS is pleased to announce that the next two pairings include esteemed DJ and BBC Radio 1 broadcaster Pete Tong with illustrious Italian record producer Giorgio Moroder, and revered DJ Steve Angello and much-respected industry veteran Ian Rogers.

These pairings further reinforce IMS Engage' mission to create a dialogue among authorities within the film and music industries. Pete Tong is a British DJ and music producer who is widely recognized as a global ambassador for electronic music after gaining a following from his Essential Selection BBC Radio 1 program. Since then he has evolved as a founder of the Electronic Department for William Morris, a consultant for Warner Music Group, IMS partner and recent recipient of an MBE – by the British monarchy. He will pair with Giorgio Moroder, whose career includes many accolades that range from producing Donna Summer' defining disco record ‘I Feel Love’ to production on the Scarface soundtrack, and most recently a contribution to Daft Punk' 2013 Random Access Memories album.

The other pairing of Steve Angello and Ian Rogers couples a renowned DJ with a powerhouse industry executive. Angello is a former member of Swedish House Mafia—one of the largest EDM groups in recent years. Individually, he is the owner and founder of his own record label, Size Records, in Stockholm, Sweden. He will be alongside Ian Rogers, whose career spawned from a musical tribute site to the Beastie Boys. Since then, he has emerged as a CEO for Topspin Media in conjunction with Beats by Dre, and spearheads endeavors to help artists interact directly with their fans and audiences. This direct-to-fan company boasts a client list that includes Eminem and Paul McCartney. He is widely respected in the US tech industry.

Pete Tong, Giorgio Moroder, Steve Angello, and Ian Rogers, along with Moby, David Lynch, Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL will join a “who's who” of the film and music communities at this year' IMS Engage. Past participants with IMS Engage have included hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons, Ultra Music Founder Patrick Moxey, renowned music manager Troy Carter, the founder of Instagram Kevin Systrom and musicians Skrillex and Diplo.

This partnership with IMS marks the latest evolution of the W brand' robust music programming which, over the years, has included the appointment of the brand' Global Musical Director, Michaelangelo L'Acqua in 2009 (an industry first); a DJ “boot camp” for emerging DJs called W Hotels & burn DJ Lab, the most recent of which took place at W Bangkok and W Koh Samui last summer; a live music series, W Live (formerly Symmetry Live), which has included recent performances by Disclosure, Jessie Ware and Foxes; and a highly popular app which features hours of curated playlists. Pioneer are the lead partner in the event overall.
