November, 2008
"The International Music Summit (IMS) is set to return to Ibiza on May 27-29th 2009 after swiftly establishing itself as one of the most talked about music conferences of the year. Last year’s hugely successful inaugural summit brought together 300 of the most influential players at the most influential players at the cutting edge of the electronic music industry, marking the successful arrival of the key business and networking event in the dance music calendar.
Pete Tong, summit co-founder states "what happened in Ibiza [last year] will impact our future and the way the music industry moves forward. The response was overwhelming; people walked away with ideas for the future, with new relationships forged from different aspects of electronica and the film and brand industry. In 2009, we aim to build on this with some exciting new initiatives to be announced in Ibiza.”
The IMS has set a new standard for conference content, bringing together provocative thought leaders from in and beyond the music industry. With the fall out from the world economic crisis leaving few in the industry unscathed, IMS:09 will set the tone for how electronic culture responds to rapidly changing challenges. With no panel overlaps, delegates can attend each and every element of the experience curated by the IMS, creating a unique focus around the key topics on everyone’s agenda, whilst the luxurious surroundings of the new Ibiza Gran Hotel provide all with the space to network, think, and debate the future of their companies.
Co-founder and curator Ben Turner states: "Keeping the intimacy and quality of delegates to the dealmakers is of huge importance to us and those returning for a second year. We aim for the electronic industry to use these three days as a platform to debate but also unveil their plans and visions for the genre’s future. We have some special announcements to make on guest attendees, watch this space..."
Set again at a special location in Ibiza, the IMS’s three intense days of business programming, networking and activity will lead straight into the official opening weekend of the Ibiza season. There will again be a very limited number of delegate badges available, increased in 2009 by 100 places to 400 due to the immense demand. Yes, the International Music Summit will continue to be the G8 of music conferences!
The IMS will mark the start of the Ibiza season with a spectacular outdoor finale, featuring the hottest live acts, DJs, and of course, Pete Tong. Ibiza’s Consell Insular (the local governing body), are working closely with IMS to create a spectacular stature event to end the summit.
IMS:09 will also see the introduction of an exhibition space for 30 companies only, all approved by the IMS board, as well as IMS: The Manual, a definitive guide for all registered delegates to take home. Central to the event is the exclusive five-star accommodation at the Ibiza Gran Hotel, for which the IMS has again secured an incredible discount price for all delegates.

Jason Ellis, Positiva, EMI
“Had a great time at IMS - very inspiring. Looking forward to next year already.”
Garry Blackburn, Anglo Management
“A rare opportunity to meet and talk with people I spend the rest of the year trying to meet and talk to!”
David Glick, founder of Edge Group
“The IMS has spotted a real need for a high quality, invitation-only event focusing on the top people in the electronic music market and has brought them together with a range of high quality speakers. I was delighted to be invited. I learned a lot and I had a great time – hard not to in Ibiza! I came away with a fist-full of business cards I'm going to be following up on. A really first rate event.”
Layo
“I guess you beat my to this but I wanted to say how much I enjoyed the IMS, both as a participant and as part of the audience on (nearly!) all the panels,it was refreshing and really interesting on many many levels, I look very much forward to next year, so thank you...”
Dan O'Neill, Managing Director, Lovebox
“I wanted to congratulate you on what was a great first conference/summit. Very professional and a great crowd. Feedback I received was first class - people talking about learning things to me...and that's very very positive. Learning is great!”
Michael Cohen - AM Only
“Fantastic ! Was a privelege to be there. Great work guys.”
Adam Wolf
“I must commend all of you on making the first IMS an amazing success. The conference provided a unique environment where professionals from all capacities of the electronic music industry could network, learn, and plan for the future, in an ideal setting. I look forward to next year’s event.”
Tim Binns, New State Music
“Some of these music conferences are well known for being all beer & bullshit but IMS managed to deliver a series of interesting, informative and focussed panels within a structured networking environment. I came away enlightened, informed, inquisitive and a little bit angry, which are all no bad thing in this age of industry indecision. I’ve already been recommending it to my top level European contacts who were missing this year and won’t hesitate to carry on singing it’s praises. Hopefully the IMS team will be able to keep the ball rolling over the coming year with a dedicated attendee online forum or similar.”
John Saunderson, Notting Hill Music
“I’ve have attended conferences/summits in New York, Miami, Amsterdam, Berlin, Cannes, etc for over 20 years. This was the most intelligently thought out event I’ve been to. Tongy and Ben made great ‘headmasters’. We were one of a handful of Publishing companies there. Notting Hill Music will definitely be back next year"
Marco ferraro, Eye Industries
“Without a shadow of a doubt, the IMS was a fantastic success. The panels and discussions were first rate. Congrats to all involved and i look forward to the next IMS”
Fred Deakin
“The IMS was a truly unique experience. To be assembled with the world leaders in the dance music industry and hear their words of wisdom was inspiring to say the least; as well as hanging out with old friends it was fantastic to meet so many of my musical heroes. Add the weather and some great hospitality and I can safely say I had a ball.”
Richard Norris
“The first International Music Seminar was a revelation; a very rewarding and illuminating time, met a lot of old friends and picked up some valuable new contacts (and
work!) along the way. Having participated in the New Music Seminar, In The City, WMC, London Calling, Great Escape etc, I can vouch that the seminar brings together the best of these events, and more. In spirit reminded me of working as a producer at Peter Gabriel's Real World recording week in 1991, where dozens of musicians got together to collaborate. That week had a very special buzz, a feeling of new territories being explored, and I sensed something similar in Ibiza. It's no mystery why every session was packed - a great range of programming and top class panelists made each debate a great experience. Everybody involved deserves many congratulations. It's already on my calander for next year.”
DJ Pippi
“First of all I am very happy to be part and support the first edition of IMS. I think that IMS can be only positive. Finally start a new era for Ibiza & World dace Music Industry. After so many years of WMC in Miami. I realize during my dj set @ Fenicia Pool that the business can be back again! everyone was relax and talk about business which in WMC doesn’t exist anymore and is extremely expensive! We have the best locations best Clubs, Restaurant,Hotels & Beachs & Sun! So am sure that IMS will be the place to be for the entire people around the World who loves & support Dance Music....”
Simon Hart, Pioneer
“Just what the industry needed, lots of raw energy from people I never thought I'd see in the same room together, let alone on a panel board!”
Thimo U. Seidel, DJTUNES.COM GmbH
“IMS was a huge success from my point of view. great people, interesting panels and very well selected locations. it could not be better for the first time really. hopefully there will be more non-uk visitors attending next year”
Rob Da Bank
“How refreshing to go to the original party island of Ibiza and meet so many intelligent creative dudes all fired up to sort out the music industry in so many ways.. I'll definitely be back!”
Kim de Ruiter, Mercury Music Group
“A good opportunity for people across the music industry to network, share ideas and generate debate in a low-pressure environment away from the stress of sales pitches too frequently found at similar conventions”
Ralf Lulsdorf, Head of Music/Deal Creation - T-Mobile
“Honestly I had no big expectations when I got the invitation for the Think Tank and the IMS. But it was really a big surprise. Perfect Organisation, good people and a productive and creative Think Tank. This first IMS is very promising. There are big opportunities to play an important role in the international music congress scene. And Ibiza is a perfect spot to discuss the latest trends and devolopments in the music and club scene”
Kurosh Nasseri, Nasseri Music Business Solutions, Inc.
“The International Music Summit surpassed every expectation - even for someone as jaded as I may be after attending most of the relevant music industry conferences every year over the past 18 years. It was very well organized with perfectly timed breaks between panels allowing all to mingle, meet, discuss, do business. The setting was reminiscent of the original Miami conference venue at The Fountainebleau Hotel many years ago - back when all involved could find each other at the pool bar and getting business done was easy. The pool area at the Fenicia Hotel became just that - a perfect meeting place for conducting business in a relaxed atmosphere! IMS was attended by the cream of the crop in our business - top level people all around . . . I wish I had arrived a day earlier. But most notable was the fact that, contrary to all the other conferences, those participating in IMS actually attended the panels: each panel was well attended by a room full people -- people of a caliber which you rarely see attending any panels at all during other conferences . . . During IMS these same people attended panel after panel paying close attention to the topics being discussed. One could not possibly ask for a more convincing validation of the quality and relevance of IMS as a conference. I certainly plan to be there next year for No. 2! Finally, the setting in Ibiza, the parties in the evenings, and the superclub opening parties following right at the end of the conference . . . perfect!”
Ryan Saltzman, Bullit Bookings - Agent
“Congratulations to the IMS on a job well done. This conference provided a much-needed environment for those of us in the music industry to meet face to face and share ideas on current topics facing the electronic music scene. I look forward to attending next year”
Bobby Simms, Think Tank Chairman
“The IMS has shown to be a credible and highly relevant event that will no doubt grow to rival major music conventions internationally.”
Michele Forte, The Orchard
“Simply great ! Panels, location, mood, organization, shows. That's how a music conference should be.”
Randy Reed, Red Light Management
“To me IMS was a grand vision – actualized. Most of the delegates seem to have been in the business for at least 10 years, many spoke of 20 year benchmarks. And yet we all seemed to still be searching and striving to push the boundaries, to explore the edges, and to keep infusing electronic music and the business associated with it into fresh and exciting new territory. I’ll be back annually for this summit.” |
