THE FOURTH IBIZA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUMMIT PRESENTS:

DAVID LYNCH

KEYNOTE INTERVIEW LIVE FROM THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS IN LOS ANGELES TO IBIZA

THURSDAY 26th MAY – 8PM @ IBIZA GRAN HOTEL

THE legendary film director David Lynch will be beamed into the Gran Hotel at IMS via video Skype from his recording studio just off Mulholland Drive. The interview will take place at 8pm (local European time), which is 11am in Los Angeles and will focus on Lynch’s music production career which in 2011 has seen him release the amazing 'Good Day Today' / 'I Know' single - remixed by the cream of the electronic world including Underworld, Skream, Sasha. Boys Noize and Diskjokke.

The interview will be lead by the three people who played pivotal roles in introducing David Lynch to the Ibiza world: Jason Bentley, who first played Lynch’s new experimental music live on air on KCRW in America and tricked the world into thinking it was by Underworld, and who at last years IMS passed the music on to Ben Turner (IMS partner). Ben in turn played it to his Sunday Best Recordings partner and BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank, and the pair quickly signed the single and are now planning the release of his full-length album for the label later this year.

The interview will see Lynch and his engineer "Big" Dean Hurley interviewed from the studio as they show us how they made the music and how they turn it out in Lynch's studio.

David Lynch stated today: "I'm excited to talk to those attending the International Music Summit in Ibiza. 12 months ago Jason Bentley from KCRW gave a track I made with my engineer Big Dean Hurley to Ben Turner and Rob da Bank of Sunday Best Recordings, and we return this year to chat about the full-length album we have just completed. I look forward to chatting with them and everyone else in attendance on May 26th live from my own studio in Los Angeles. We'll talk about the music and how it came to be and exist. We had such a blast making it and I am honored to be a part of the International Music Summit."

This will be held exclusively live for IMS delegates

THE FOURTH IBIZA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUMMIT PRESENTS:

THE IMS GRAND FINALE FESTIVAL

27TH MAY 2011 @ DALT VILA (18:00-0:00)

Dalt Villa, Baluarte De Santa Lucia, Ibiza Old Town
A UNESCO world heritage site

LINE UP

2MANYDJS
DUBFIRE
PETE TONG
JASON BENTLEY
HERCULES & LOVE AFFAIR (LIVE)
THE JAPANESE POPSTARS (LIVE)

The IMS Grand Finale Festival returns to the iconic Dalt Vila for a third year as we look to host our biggest event yet. In the heart of Ibiza Town and looking over the Balearic sea, the very special UNESCO world heritage site in Dalt Vila is without doubt one of the finest open-air locations in the world – and this is the only contemporary music event they allow to take place each year.

Building on last year’s unforgettable show that featured performances from Buraka Som Sistema, Mark Ronson, Sasha, Skream, David E Sugar and IMS co-founder Pete Tong, the IMS team have now confirmed the lineup for 2011 and once again it’s tantalizing prospect.

In the year that Pete Tong celebrates 20 years on BBC Radio 1, the co-founder of IMS will once again be spearheading the IMS celebrations and joined by none more exciting than the mighty 2manydjs – still regarded by many as the greatest DJs on the planet. Having re-written the rulebook of DJ mixes, pioneered the art of the mash-up remix, and conquered the world as their 4-piece band Soulwax, there’s little the two Belgian brothers haven’t achieved. They will be the headline act this year and it promises to be one hell of a show!

Not stopping there we also have Ibizan favourite – and huge techno star in his own right – Dubfire, who will be making his IMS debut. A man who originally touched down on the island in the early 90’s as one half of the Grammy award winning duo Deep Dish, but in more recent years has developed a solo career that has taken him to even dizzier heights. Without doubt he will be a huge draw to any techno fans that are in Ibiza that week. Rounding off the line-up we have IMS favourite Jason Bentley, the host of America’s most influential radio show (Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW) and the winner of the first ever IMS Pioneer award. A key name in the U.S. dance scene for many years, he is also the man behind countless movie soundtracks, including all three Matrix films, and is credited for orchestrating the partnership between Daft Punk and the recent Tron movie – he’s also an amazing DJ!

The headline live act on the night will be New York’s finest, Hercules & Love Affair, who recently released their ‘Blue Songs’ album to the delight of both the media and their ever-growing fan base. Managing to channel the spirit (and sounds) of the famous Paradise Garage, they combine both classic NYC disco attitude with modern house and electronic pop at it’s very best. They will be joined on the bill by The Japanese Popstars, who will be performing their hybrid style of live electro to an Ibizan crowd that has already shown them a lot of love from their previous shows at Wonderland and Amnesia. Their Virgin Records album contains some incredible collaborations, expect special guests to be joining them on stage at IMS!

The event is free to attend for all delegates of the IMS, with some 2,000 tickets available to the public.

Tickets available to purchase now from here: - Admission is free to all delegates of the IMS.

24 January 2011

"IMS is electronica's equivalent to the TED conference - a hub for the world's leaders and thinkers in dance music"

IMS returns to Ibiza Gran Hotel and Dalt Vila in Ibiza for the fourth year, building on the great success of 2010’s summit that confirmed its role as the leading event for professionals in electronic music.

Created by a team including BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, IMS is a unique annual experience in Ibiza, combining an innovating and refreshing business-focused daytime schedule set across three days and the IMS Grand Finale Festival at the stunning Dalt Vila UNESCO World Heritage site

This year there will only be 500 delegate’s badges available to retain intimacy.

We’re delighted to announce the first speakers for this year’s International Music Summit (IMS: 2011). The scene is set for what promises to be the most exciting, informative and inspirational IMS yet. With Ibiza’s leading 5* Ibiza Gran Hotel once again the location for the daytime conferences, the IMS have upped the ante in the evenings with an expanded Dalt Vila experience and a first ever IMS Opening Party at Pacha on Wednesday 25th May. With last year’s amazing open-air Dalt Villa event including DJ sets from Pete Tong, Mark Ronson, Sasha, Skream and a live set from Buraka Som Sistema and David E Sugar, you can expect even more music and mayhem than before.

KEY CONFIRMED GUESTS FOR THE DAYTIME IMS: 2011 SCHEDULE:

IMS is honoured to have Daniel Miller from Mute Records as their Keynote Interview in 2011. The man who signed Depeche Mode, Moby and Richie Hawtin (amongst many others) has been invited to the IMS every year so far and now that he’s become independent again, it feels like the right time for his story. In another major coup for IMS, it will be Richie Hawtin who interviews Miller.

Richie will also feature at IMS discussing his plans to make dance music greener, in conjunction with Alison Tickell from Julie's Bicycle plus leading electronic music agents.

In addition, in the year that dance music has exploded onto daytime radio all over the world, the BBC's ‘Head of Music’ George Ergatoudis will face the industry about his decisions, which arguably make him the most influential man in worldwide radio for electronic music labels. As well as speaking, Ergatoudis has agreed to a “speed pitching session” where delegates will have four minutes to sell their music to him.

IMS has also invited one of the worlds most powerful and most highly respected music agents to speak. David Levy was possibly the first ever DJ agent, and now with William Morris Endeavour, the company have a huge market share within the genre worldwide. Levy is uncompromising and has a vision and an overview for the global scene like few others. Elsewhere, the inspirational character that is Emmanuel du Buretel, the head of Because Music in France, will talk about his business interests that span way beyond simply releasing music. Emmanuel is one of the most respected label bosses in the world, and from France has a special approach to music and artist relations.

Other key speakers are Amy Thomson from ATM Management who has taken the Swedish House Mafia from Sweden to the top of the charts worldwide as both manager and agent. Also Jho Oakley who has taken drum n bass producers Chase & Status and Pendulum from underground clubs to writing records for the likes of Rihanna and beyond. Also included are speakers from Nokia and National Geographic, who have a new approach to music.

With those guests and so many more currently being confirmed for IMS: 2011, its safe to say that alongside all the evening entertainment, the IMS is still fully focused on setting the agenda for the future of the industry. It’s time to get Back to Business.

Pete Tong states: “We are very proud to announce the first stage of our conference line up for the 4th International Music Summit in Ibiza. Once again we are privileged to welcome an incredibly diverse array of brilliant guest speakers including the legendary founder of Mute Records Daniel Miller, Jho Oakley manager of Chase & Status and George Ergatoudis head of music at BBC Radio 1. I'm sure event will continue to make a major contribution to the debate on the future of electronic music entertainment around the world.

Working Group To Develop New “DJ Index” As Sun Sets On Most Successful IMS
3rd Ibiza International Music Summit 2010
Ibiza Gran Hotel, Ibiza, 26th–28th May

  • 82.1% believe business is in a better state than 12 months ago
  • 94.7% agree with the need to credit producers on digital formats
  • Cream’s James Barton wins IMS Pioneer Award 2010
  • Coca-Cola Group launch new production initiative at IMS
  • Sony Music unveil Calvin Harris as A&R Executive at IMS

An agenda-setting Ibiza International Music Summit ended its most successful conference to date with an ambitious working group being set up to develop an accurate and authoritative new DJ popularity index.

The move was agreed after an open meeting, with the working group of artists, managers, booking agents, club owners, record label executives, retailers and radio representing acts across the electronic music spectrum.

The concept will be taken to the Official Charts Company once the principles are agreed, with a desired launch date of 1st January 2010.

Mixmag has pledged its support for the new IMS-conceived chart, with editor Nick Decosemo committing to a page on it in each issue, and a cover in January of every year. Interest in a new chart has increased in the last 12 months, with 81% of IMS 2010 delegates in favour, versus 76% at IMS 2009.

With registrations up on 2009, the overall mood of IMS 2010 was of a sector resurgent after years of touring and steadily building up fanbases online.  An opening report revealed that electronic music accounted for a whopping 7.5% of album sales in the UK and that licensed capacity of dance festivals in the US now stood at 350,000.

During his Big Dog DJ: F*** You I’m Famous interview, superstar DJ David Guetta felt his success with bands like the Black Eyed Peas was helping to open doors for the genre at US radio, record labels and across the media.

IMS’s keynote interviewee Mark Ronson added that there hadn’t been enough great new Hip Hop coming through to fill out traditional Hip Hops sets, so those DJs were experimenting with house, which served to make the genre more acceptable.  He also revealed details of his forthcoming album, featuring collaborations with Simon le Bon, Q-Tip, Wiley, Boy George, Spankrock and US electronic artist MNDR.

The Meet The Future – The Artists panel meanwhile, featuring Skream, Arthur Velasquez and R1’s Annie Mac, Heidi and Toddla T is fast becoming the stuff of legend. Panelist Busy P’s insistence that a bottle of Hierbas Ibicencas Liqueur (offered by moderator Nick Decosemo for the best question) be opened immediately led the fast-slurping panel to quickly descend into near-anarchy on stage.

This followed the launch by Coca Cola’s Burn energy drink of Burn Studios, a cloud-based digital platform where professionals and raw talent can come together to access to authentic state-of-the-art music making tools and share musical brilliance.
On the afternoon of the last day, delegates, complete with election-style digital voting devices, were asked to vote on a number of key issues. 94.7% agreed with Tommy D’s plea to credit producers on digital formats, while only 34.1% of delegates felt the majors would stick with Dance labels this time round (full results below).

Said Pete Tong, IMS co-founder/partner “I'm very happy to report after our 3rd year that the IMS continues to grow - both as an inspiring and enlightening electronic music business gathering where our delegates can get up close and personal with many of world's leaders in the field, and as the host to a unique collection of live shows that are open to the public, especially the breathtaking closing event at Dalt Vila high up in Ibiza's old Town. It’s one of those rare and special places where the venue is the real star and we aim to expand on the concept in 2011.”

Ben Turner, IMS co-founder/partner commented "The positivity coming out of IMS 2010 is hugely reflective of what is happening to this genre around the world at the moment. To see huge brands and major recording labels making exclusive announcements to the IMS conference room/debating floor is a huge testament to the delegation this event is attracting each year."

Said Ted Cohen, TAG Strategic “IMS is the most exhilarating conference I’ve ever participated in.”

The event, which has already been described as the TED of electronic dance music (TED is an annual convention of global technology, entertainment and design luminaries), wrapped up with Cream owner James Barton taken by surprise as he was presented with the IMS Pioneer award 2010, in recognition of the importance of the live sector and his services to it via his global Creamfields brand.

Said Ben Turner "James Barton has nurtured the Cream brand for over 15 years and now has a foothold in almost every major territory with the very pure Creamfields festival concept. The huge roar in the room when his name was announced kind of says all you need to know about what his empire has done for this music worldwide.”

Commented James Barton "It was a real honour and a complete surprise to pick up this year's Pioneer award at the IMS. It was made even more special that the people who gave me this award included Pete Tong, Danny Whittle, Mark Netto and my good friend Ben Turner who are all pioneers within this industry. The award completes an amazing year for me and Cream, and is totally appreciated."

The Grand Finale live event at Dalt Vila, the UNESCO heritage site that towers over Ibiza town was a sell out, packed crowds treated to the sounds of Mark Ronson (DJ set), Pete Tong, Sasha, Skream, Buraka Som Sistema and Sunday Best signing David E Sugar in arguably the finest location for dance music in the world. It may have been only the second time the Grand Finale had taken place but it already felt like a vital part of the Ibiza season - its opening party.

The IMS website will carry films of all the seminars and panels so, if you couldn't make it this year, head there now to discover what you missed http://www.internationalmusicsummit.com/html/videos10.php
