International Music Summit

The second IBIZA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SUMMIT was a huge success, closing with a 2,000 capacity sell-out Grand Finale in historic Dalt Vila featuring Basement Jaxx, Filthy Dukes, Pete Tong and Rob da Bank. It has been described by media "as one of the most important events Ibiza has ever seen".

The stars of the daytime summit at the five-star Ibiza Gran Hotel were Richie Hawtin with his closing keynote interview, where he challenged the dinosaurs of the music business, with a free-thinking, visionary assault on most of those who had been talking for the three days. You can see the full keynote on You Tube. The only person who escaped his criticism was 19-year-old promoter Callum Negus Fancey from Let's Go Crazy, who rocked the audience with a revealing insight into how young music lovers feel patronised by modern media and marketing techniques. Other notables were a powerful opening speech from artist manager Marc Marot, Mark Selby from Nokia, and the IMS Anthem created by Dirty Vegas and remixed by Above & Beyond.

The IMS Pioneer Award was presented for the very first time, with Jason Bentley from KCRW in Los Angeles the recipient. The award honours him for his oustanding dedication to business with his huge support of the electronic music scene in North America through radio, TV and film.

IMS:09 featured 400 delegates from 29 countries, plus over 80 speakers. The audience for the first time ever were invited to vote live on the issues facing the music business, resulting in a series of initiatives to be revealed by the IMS partners. It was revealed that 80% of IMS attendees did accept that "mobile is now the fabric of youth."

All roads now lead to the next IMS event which will take place on May 26-28 in Ibiza in 2010.
